XSI FaceFX Exporter

Initially created by Martin Barrette at Softimage, the XSI FaceFX exporter provides an interface for creating bone poses from XSI and getting FaceFX data into XSI.

Installing

The XSI FaceFX exporter does not install into the XSI application directory automatically, so follow these steps:

  • After installing FaceFX Studio, you have the option of running the 32-bit, and/or 64-bit FaceFX Tools Installer.  Run the appropriate tools installer.
  • From the FaceFX Studio Tools Installer XSI directory, copy the FaceFX.vbs, FxXSI.htm, and FxXSI.jpg files into your XSI plugin path for example: C:\Softimage\Softimage_7.5\Application\Plugins
  • Select the appropriate FxXSI.dll file (32-bit or 64-bit and the correct XSI version) from the FaceFX Studio Tools Installer XSI directory, and copy that into the XSI plugin path as well.
  • Start XSI and select File->Import->FaceFX...

File

Open, save or create a new facefx file here.

Reference Pose

Lists the bones in the reference pose of the currently loaded actor. You can Import or Export the reference pose to/from the current frame. The bones in the reference pose should must have unique names in the scene.

Bone Poses

Lists the bone poses in the currently loaded actor. The Import and Export buttons facilitate importing and exporting a bone pose to/from the current frame. You can also perform Batch operations using the text file format described here. Bone poses are stored based upon how they differ from the reference pose. For this reason, if you change your reference pose, you have to re-export all of your bone poses.

Animations

This window lists the animations in the actor. You can switch between the various animation groups in the actor from the combo box. To import an animation onto your bones-based character, just select the animation and click on the Import button. For morph-based characters, importing animations is done via scripting.

Logging information

The XSI FaceFX plug-in outputs debug information to the standard XSI log.
